Meet Barry the Bodysurfing Koala — the chillest marsupial to ever catch a wave. Designed in collaboration with Sydney artist Mulga the Artist, this vibrant stubby cooler celebrates good vibes, surf breaks, and the art of living your best coastal life.

Crafted by Stubbyz, these premium Australian-made coolers keep your drink cold while bringing some serious art to your hand. Each one is printed in full colour with Mulga’s signature hand-drawn style and tropical palette. Perfect for beach days, BBQs, or backyard hangs.

About Mulga

Mulga is Joel Moore, renowned Australian street artist, freelance illustrator, muralist, published author and designer of the much-loved Mulga product range. Mulga lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife, Sarah, and their three children. Known for his unique Australian creations and signature style of intricate line work and bright colours, Mulga’s creations grace walls and objects across the world.

After having his first art show and launching his art career in 2012 he left his finance job in 2014 to become a full-time art dude. Mulga loves the beach and surfing and his summer inspired designs bring to life a world where tropical bearded men run rampant, tigers wear diamond sunglasses and gorillas rule the world like some kind of funky planet of the apes.

The Original Stubbyz "Stubby Cooler"

The story begins in Australia where the humble Stubbyz style stubby holder is available literally everywhere. Stubbyz beer coolers are certified Australian Made® and a pioneer of beautiful and colourful label art & coordinating tape and stitching.

Accomodating bulk & custom options across six sizes for nearly all can & bottle sizes. Including, slim 330ml bottles and 375ml cans & bottles.

Stubbyz stubby holders are only made with neoprene and considered the highest quality handmade in Australia.

Standard, Slim or One Size?

• Standard Stubbyz stubby coolers fit cans & bottles between 345ml - 375ml (12 oz.).

• Slim sized holders fit popular Euro-style skinny bottles between 275ml - 330ml (9 - 11 oz).

• One Size holders fit both Euro-style skinny bottles between 275ml - 330ml (9 - 11 oz) and 345ml - 375ml (12 oz.) cans & bottles.

Height is the same on all three styles. Both Standard and Slim have glued in bases. One Size is baseless and adds bottom overlocking. This is what we also call "Festival" style as it can be flattened and taken on the go! See the FAQ below for more info.

Some Euro-style, skinny and long-neck bottles have a reduced girth (330ml) and are designed to fit our Slim or One Size holders. With so many sizes of cans & bottles these days, the Stubbyz Standard size coolers will accomodate the majority (375ml) and either size bottle or can might be better fitted in our One Size cooler that accomdates both 330ml & 375ml bottles and cans.

  • Over-locking

    Top over-locking provides longevity and durability in a stylish format. This is a Stubbyz standard on all stock lines, as well as most custom & bulk runs.

  • Binding

    The Stubbyz tape and binding are black as standard with additional colors available on bulk & custom orders. Our 4-stiched binding tape and over-locking is best-in-class.

  • Base

    Stock lines all have glued neoprene bases with interior printing. Bulk & custom orders can have bases or popular for festivals and concerts, baseless with or without bottom over-locking.

The Story of Barry the Bodysurfing Koala

Once there was a koala called Barry, and even though he was middle-aged, he’d never been to the beach. He lived in a bustling inland koala metropolis called Koalatown, where he worked as a designer at a big advertising agency.

One day Barry realised he wasn’t really happy. So he quit his job, packed up his eucalyptus stash, and moved to the coast. He started freelancing, set up camp in a beachside tree, and every morning at sunrise, he’d grab his pink zinc and hit the waves for a bodysurf.

Now Barry spends his days catching sweet tubes and perfecting 360 spins in the surf — the ultimate symbol of finding your flow and doing what makes you happy.
